Tips on How to Care for Your Skin

Eczema is a terrible condition for those that suffer from it and to make matters worse medical science still doesn’t fully understand what triggers the condition, whether this is the reason or some outside influence, remains a mystery. Sufferers have to endure a condition that leaves patches of dry itchy skin that looks inflamed. Small crusty blisters may also be present in the affected areas.

While a number of forms exist, the most common is the form of atopic eczema, like all the other types, this one is characterized by itching as well. A sufferer of atopic eczema will often find short term relief by scratching the affected areas but this aggravates the condition and damages the skin. Unfortunately a serious side effect is the skin becomes much more sensitive, substances such as cosmetics, soaps and detergents products are just a few they must avoid if they do not wish flare-ups.

The situation in small children doesn’t look as severe at first as the patchy red skin is not on the skins surface but below it. Although the primary factor with eczema is itching you might still be susceptible to normal rashes, because the disorder is characterized by itching, if this rash does not itch then it is not a symptom of this condition. Eczema patients are given creams and lotions for example to use when they have flare-ups but if they use the treatment on some itchy skin where there is a rash and if the itching is helped but the rash remains it is more than likely that the rash has nothing to do with the itch.

Itchy skin is not the only symptom to diagnose the skin complaint because many health conditions can cause itchiness. All eczema conditions have a rash but it is the associated itching sensation that is not understood yet. One of the more noticeable symptoms of is the red skin in the location of the rash which is caused by increased blood flow. Eczema inflammation can have many triggers and more about this is being discovered constantly, scratching can lead to bacteria infecting the area and making the inflammation worse. Blisters are also a symptom and in an active condition, the blisters seen are small, although there are cases when the blisters are larger,an infection or just a genetic trait of the sufferer could be the reasons for this. Every sufferer is warned about blisters as they can be damaged by scratching or carelessness and while some are filled with fluid, others have a pus like substance, bursting these blisters is not advisable if you do not want further infection.

All About Alzheimer’s Disease

With an aging global population, it is not surprising the focus of attention has been placed squarely on the shoulders of Alzheimer’s disease. Estimated at affecting 1 in 10 people over the age of 65 Alzheimer’s affects the memory centers of the mind.

It was actually discovered in 1906 by a German physician, Alois Alzheimer. Studies into the disorder have shown you have a grater chance of acquiring Alzheimer’s the older you become. Often, a person experiencing their first signs of Alzheimer’s is unable or unwilling to admit it to themselves or anyone else.

Alzheimer’s disease is currently treated exactly the same as other forms of dementia. Stalling the progression and possibly improving the condition is about the best that can currently be achieved with drugs but no definitive treatment has yet been discovered. They have been approved for use by the FDA and have shown they can improve the cognitive abilities of the patient for up to six months.

This drug slows down the mental deterioration so those already prescribed Donepezil with severe symptoms are now prescribed Memantine. More than 80 percent of the Memantine excreted are unchanged by the kidneys.

Alzheimer’s disease is considered to be a major public health challenge since the average age of the industrialized world’s population is increasing. The economic cost of treating and providing care for those with this type of aging disease is currently over 40 billion dollars a year. Last year alone, the National Institute on Aging spent nearly one-half of its budget on research related to this insidious disease. Acai berry are already considered one of the richest fruit sources of antioxidants

To help you reduce the chance of contracting dementia, it’s important to adopt a healthy lifestyle, choose carefully what you eat and drink and take more exercise. Some researchers into the disease have found that patients who are happy and healthy with Alzheimer’s, slow down the rate of their mental decline. Fortunately this disease is still mainly affecting elderly people but there have been recent occasions where younger persons have developed this disease.
